Kinetic Chain Motion

Have you ever heard of Kinetic Chain Motion? If not, I was just like you three weeks ago, January 23, 2021, where I stumbled across a Ted talk video on YouTube during a late-night binge called, “How Sports Science Is Creating Super Athletes” by Karishma Boolani. The doctor was explaining the kinetic chain theory.

The Kinetic Chain Theory looks at the human body as a chain with various mechanical links in the body. According to this theory, the movement at one joint can affect movement at another joint further down the chain of joints. For example, the movement of the ankle affects the knee. And the movement of the knee affects the hip and so on. When I heard this, it made me realize that what I have been attempting to do was real, and it had a name.

Inventor

My name is Mosi “Mosimo” Jones. I’m an Artist, Author, Inventor, and Founder of Pharaoh Athletics LLC. Ten years ago, I was broke working a dead-end job as a salesman for Bose Corp. You knew, the company that sells the famous wave radio to senior citizens around the country, I was their dealer. I got the sales job after I was recently kicked out of my grandmother’s house because I was so broke, I couldn’t afford to pay her rent money. However, before working for Bose, I worked for Nike on and off for six years while attending a community college. It was a cool job and all, but it was part-time, and they weren’t looking to promote me anytime soon, so I chose to move on.

Work in Progress

After I finished college, I thought I would be in a better position for jobs with a degree, but it was not the case. I kept getting turned down for jobs where you did not even need a degree for the job. I felt like a failure in life to my family, friends, and most of all myself. I did not understand why I could not find a job until I realized that what I was suffering from was racial discrimination. Racial discrimination was something I knew of and studied, but I never knew how much of a problem it was living in a small city. Racism is the workforce is not a typical discussion with the blacks in the community, but everyone is a victim of it. Most give up and fall victim to the streets. Others move away and never come back. And for the ones who try to do the right thing, survive on minimum wage jobs for the rest of your life and nothing to show for it. It’s extremely emasculating not being able to provide for your family or even buy an asset such as a house to pass down in the family. We must end Racism.

Adjust with Time

It was a pivotal time where I could see myself getting married, having kids, and a nice house to come home to. But the way things were going, I did not see myself getting any of these things living here. The book is not about my life, so a lot of the details I am leaving out for this E-book to stick to the main topic. I will say that I’m not your average person wondrously going through life without a purpose. Since I was a kid, I had always been involved with the Arts or Entertainment. And after I graduated college, I thought I would be a film director and move to California. My dream died when I had used up all the student loan money. I had to start working full-time as a struggling artist. I surmised a massive student loan debt over the years going to college, which totaled over one hundred thousand, A huge mistake!

I’m a firm believer that college isn’t for everyone. Do not get me wrong, college was a great learning experience, but what I received versus what I owe doesn’t add up! College is a business first, just like everything else.

Change of Course

At this pivotal point in my life, I met a woman who inspired me so much she changed my perspective on goals and ambition. You see, her goal was to become a famous singer. That goal allowed for her to accomplish more in three years than I had ever seen anybody do who only had ambition, and she became famous. Her success inspired me enough to put more focus on my ideas and goals. I decided that if I would be successful, I needed to create something that could become a global product. If I sold the intellectual property, the reward would make up for all those years I lost figuring the business out.

I kept a book with ideas that a girlfriend gave me to get inspired, I guess. Sure enough, over the years, I wrote many ideas in that book that could potentially become something. But I was not passionate about any of the ideas. And I remember a motivational speaker named Les Brown mentioning that if you are not passionate about your goals or dreams, it will not last. I thought about what I was passionate about, which was a lot, but one thing that stuck out was my shoe collection, the perks of working for a shoe company. I also loved sports played football, basketball, soccer, skateboarding, BMX riding, swimming, track and field, baseball, karate, and more growing up. But my favorite sports were football and basketball. Although I never had goals to become an athlete, sports came naturally, and it came with no effort for me, even now. I’m from a small town where they breed athletes.  Note: Add Athletes who played in the NFL

Technical Difficulties

My light bulb moment came after walking a mile to and from work and thinking, I wish I had a shoe that could make me walk faster! It sounded brilliant at the time. So, I researched Google about “shoes with springs”. I found a Company called Z-Coil that made shoes with a metal spring in the heel's back. Z-coils company demographic was marketed towards older people with feet and back problems. Which was no good for me, and the idea I thought I had been used. I realized that the concept was great, but if I was going to make something targeted towards sports, I needed to make sure that it had the least possibility of getting banned.

So, I went back to the drawing board and researched football injuries. In sports, ankle injuries are the most common injury, with some estimates attributing more than 45% of all athletic injuries to ankle sprains. That was my light bulb moment. Ankle sprains are a common issue, and if I could figure out a solution using footwear tech, I could create a shoe company that could help athletes worldwide.

Shoes Matter

I realized that the main issue with sports played on grass and turf-related fields, designed for forward and backward motion. Forward and backward motion demonstrated by a football player running at maximum speed with cleats designed to grip the grass or turf is an injury waiting to happen. What other forward and backward moving device causes serious injury and even death, you guessed it! A Car, and Football players are the only two things designed to crash into each other. Cars protect people driving them from the extreme forces of impact during a crash, just like a football player’s uniform protects the athlete from extreme forces of impact during a hit. And when you hit something too hard while running or crash into something too hard while driving, serious bodily injury or death can occur.

Dangerous Addiction

If you’re shocked by this information, just like your car, football is a big business! And just like your favorite car you drive, technology improvements in any sport are like putting a band-aid on a water faucet. Football will always be a dangerous sport, just like driving, and more people are driving than playing football. That does not stop you from driving.

I am not here to make football look bad. I love the sport. Recently, I just watched Tom Brady and the Tampa Buccaneers (used to be called the Succaneers!) beat the breaks off the best team in the NFL, the Kansas City Chiefs in Superbowl LIV. And I am sure there was a football player injured in that game, just like hundreds of thousands of games played across the country. Plus, countless practices played which could be fatal to a high school, or college athlete’s future professional career.

Motion Controlled Footwear

Remember that light bulb moment I mentioned earlier? I believe that in a sport like football or any grass or turf-related sports, you may not be able to avoid injury, but you can reduce the impact of the injury. Thus, providing athletes an opportunity to have sustainable careers lasting longer than the average 3.5 years in the present time. Almost ten years ago, I came up with the idea that your shoes may solve many injury-prone issues simply by changing the motion of the midsole. So, I designed a shoe called Motion Controlled Footwear.

Motion-controlled footwear share similarity on the concept that the body is in a constant state of motion. Your heart never stops beating unless you have some type of trauma. Your lungs never stop taking in oxygen unless you hold your breath. What is unnatural is the human body sprinting for sport. Humans are not built like animals with natural claws for gripping the ground and tails to sustain balance making agile sharp turns. Evolution built mammals this way to run or capture food better. Man’s greatest accomplishment came through the development of the brain, which created technology for protection and support.

Just like motion-controlled footwear, kinetic chain energy is built on this same concept. Adding to that, grass and turf-related sports are played moving forwards and backwards. A football or soccer player running laterally is more than likely to cause injury while blocking an opposing player or adjusting their body to move up or down the field, making sharp turns. This event occurs because the lower extremities of the body are not really used to make sharp, agile turns and slow down almost to stop.

Thus, pressure on the joints and soft tissues can be affected by the kinetic chain energy that starts at the ankle and works its way up the body. It is like a car moving at full speed and pressing on the breaks as hard as you can repeatedly. The car will eventually break down, resulting in worn-out tires, brake pads losing friction, and more issues. A solution is to reduce the ankle's stress when running at maximum speed, yet maintaining motion running forward, backward, or lateral. Thus, you’re able to reduce injury in more of a controlled motion. It will not stop you from injury, but it will reduce an injury dramatically using more of a fluid motion playing on grass or turf-related sports.

Big Brand Shoe Monopoly

New Shoe Companies find out the hard way it is difficult for athletes to support startup shoe companies due to contractual agreements with larger shoe brands. An example of this is the NFL’s sponsorship with Nike, which is estimated to be worth 1 billion. All players must wear brand-sponsored cleats once the game begins. New league rules were met with questions, of course. If the NBA can let its players wear whatever shoes they want and still count as professionals, why can’t the NFL loosen up? It seems the only way around the velvet rope is to sponsor athletes who have retired from the game.

With 32 football teams in the NFL and around 1600 players in the league, there seems to be an unfair advantage. The primary question would be, what does a player do if the football cleats do not properly fit? Just like sneakers, how the shoe fits depend on what shoe brand you wear. Can the NFL definitively say that football cleats sponsored by Nike are far superior to other well-known shoe brands? Can Nike guaranty this? Having full control over an entire professional sport is debatable. No disrespect to Nike, I’m just saying.

Speed Rules

Two of the most popular sports (Football, Soccer) were designed to be played on a forward motion field. Although the field allows players to move in lateral motion or forward, the game objective is to score moving the ball forward. Why is this important? Because on a typical field, the faster you move forward, the faster you can score. Likewise, players with 40-yard times below 4.5 for speed usually end up with better contracts. This event is the difference between future NFL players rewarded with millions or reducing their contracts to NFL’s base salary. However, even base salaries in the league are surprisingly good, worth a couple of hundred thousand. It is quite intriguing that the 40-yard dash is critical for future NFL player contracts. According to the Washington Post. The 40-yard dash, an ancient, invented speed test of arbitrary distance, has become an event unto itself on the NFL’s calendar. For years, it has been the public benchmark for the fastest men in football, a few seconds that may cause draft stocks to soar or crater, a measurement that can stick with a player his whole career. However, it is not to say that other tests and drills the NFL requires play a factor in the overall draft pick of a player.

Evolution

We are living in a time when superior technology rules. Athletic footwear has become not only a fashion statement but also technology driven. Carbon fiber are used in the best football cleats, which are lighter and have become less expensive to manufacture. Athletic footwear has become less bulky using lighter materials, so light it makes sneakers look like socks. Likewise, 3-D printing has become so good, you can print an entire shoe in a matter of hours, which some big brands have proved. Some brands are even manufacturing shoes that lace up with no help with a flick of a button. Technology is the driving force for consumers to make better decisions when buying products.

Technology Built for Athletes

Motion-Controlled Footwear is the future for athletic performance enhancement. We have designed athletic footwear using the best materials on the market. We have studied the foot anatomy for ten years to develop a shoe that wraps around the foot like a glove yet can support the heaviest football players using a full carbon fiber midsole. The footwear will come with a special air cartridge to partially inflate the midsole for a better cushion and helps to propel the wearer forward.

Many of these injuries in football occur during contact between players, but more than a third of injuries report in noncontact situations or with a combination of high compressive load and twist during a jump landing.

The forefront of the shoe rotated from 180, and up to 360 degrees. A rotating mechanism allows for better maneuverability assisting in the key chain motion of the body. For example, a quarterback could plant their feet, rotate the sole 180 degrees standing in the pocket and throw a ball with a better kinetic chain motion. The benefits start from the feet all the way up the arm. The quarterback would have more accurate throws and better velocity on the ball using far less energy. Running backs wearing motion-controlled footwear could make better decisions behind the line of scrimmage. The rotating mechanism deliver as better kinetic chain motion running laterally and dodging defenders. Rotating up to 360 degrees can be extremely beneficial for wide receivers who have run up the field and turn around fast enough before the defender sees the play.

Time is Everything

Ten years in the making and I faced many setbacks attempting to get the technology out on the market. When I first started this project in 2013, carbon fiber was used for supercars due to manufacturing costs. Also, the cost to make athletic footwear prototypes through trial and error for the materials was expensive. Now, 3-D printing technology helped reduce cost, allowing us to focus on manufacturing products made in the US. Technology has caught up with manufacturing and now we have everything we need to test, research, and manufacture in-house.

Setbacks

There are not that many athletic footwear companies to choose from. You can count on one hand how many shoe companies dominate the market. Yet, hundreds of athletic apparel brands come out every year! Odd when you think about it. Is it a conspiracy for the big brand shoe companies to crush the smaller competition before they get too big is a fair question? Smaller athletic brands are challenged with to throw in the towel. Especially, when their demographic is athletes with contractual agreements from larger brands. Even at the collegiate level, colleges are under contract from sport brands.

Mission

Our goal is to assist with reducing athletic injuries played on grass and turf related sports. I believe that motion-controlled footwear can be a solution for athletes who want to reduce injuries on the field and five steps ahead of the competition. The benefits of this technology will revolutionize the game itself. Sports such as baseball will allow players to hit homeruns effortlessly. Soccer players will be more agile, and with a more versatile style of play. Tennis, you would see faster serves and quicker reaction times. The idea of how sports would change an athlete’s ability will be so different reinventing the athletes of today ushering in the future of super athletes.

Educating athletes on the benefits of motion-controlled footwear is the key to our future success. If you want to support the project. Two apparel brands were created that help provide the much-needed financing for our project and for people who like what we are doing. All proceeds go back into the business. If you know someone who may like or benefit from what we are doing, to know more about motion-controlled footwear you can visit. Please share this information with family and friends who suffer from sporting injuries or just want options for training. You can also follow us on Instagram or Facebook. Thank you.
